Accelerated Reader

Wilbur Charter for Enriched Academics has chosen to use the Accelerated Reader program.  Your children already have their username and passwords.  The links on the left will help you find books that your children can read at home and can take the quiz at school.

Develop lifelong readers and learners

All learning starts with reading. It’s a skill and, as with every skill, it requires not just instruction but practice.

AR serves as the practice component of a comprehensive reading program by promoting personalized practice combined with data to monitor and manage that practice. With nearly 70,000 nonfiction titles, it's easy to integrate content-area reading practice as well.

With AR, teachers can:

  • Motivate students for learning. Self-selected reading at students' independent reading levels results in success, which spurs enthusiasm, higher attendance, fewer discipline problems, and better attitudes. Students will be motivated to read constantly.
  • Receive reliable, objective information. The data cover reading comprehension of fiction and nonfiction reading, vocabulary development, literacy skills development, and more.
  • Prepare students for college and career. Students engage in substantial amounts of reading practice and receive immediate feedback. As a result, scores improve on state tests and more students master standards—research proves it.
  • Keep all students challenged. Students are guided to books where the level of difficulty is neither too hard nor too easy—the level at which optimal learning takes place.

It's a new day for Accelerated Reader

Reading transports curious minds to wondrous realms of the imagination. It determines success not only in the classroom, but in life. Highly popular and successful for over 25 years, Accelerated Reader (AR) is a powerful tool for monitoring and managing independent reading practice.

AR now has a beautifully redesigned student interface with improved navigation and tablet compatibility, while maintaining the great benefits that you've come to know and love, including the ability to:

  • Monitor students' progress toward College and Career Readiness expectations with the new CCR Report.
  • Personalize and guide independent reading practice.
  • Develop lifelong readers and learners.
  • Tap into unlimited access to all quizzes and enjoy online support.
  • Increase parental support with web-based, school-to-home communications.

AR utilizes the ATOS readability formula—a verified measure of quantitative text complexity for the Common Core State Standards. Each book with an AR Quiz has an ATOS book level and an interest level—a qualitative measure of text complexity. This information is free and easily accessible on AR BookFinder. The ATOS Analyzer allows you to submit text and instantly receive an ATOS level.
